One Childhood, One Chance

Year 6 Blog 7th May 2021

Hello again!

This week, we have continued to read how Michael and his family are progressing with their journey around the world. We have really enjoyed learning how to develop characters by using the skill of characterisation. We have also been retrieving information about the island Michael has been deserted on. From this information, we then drew a map and describe this place using a variety of phrase types. We have also learned even more about angles; we have focused angles within 2D shapes.  We ended the week having a lot of fun on Number Day! Well done for so many brilliant costumes and generous donations for the charity NSPCC.

Next week, our Maths lesson will involve learning about properties of circles: circumference, diameter and, for some, area. We are also going to be learning how read and plot co-ordinates and also solving missing co-ordinates problems. In English, we will be continuing to read our class text: Kensuke's Kingdom. Our writing will include learning how to control shifts in time by manipulating tenses (flashbacks). Our focus will also be on a new character. Once we have learnt more about them, we will be writing detailed character descriptions. In Topic afternoons, we are going to be looking at more masterpieces by our artist Hiroshige. We will use this to develop our drawing skills and also use his art to inspire some rubbings and prints.

Love To Learning Task:

For your love to learn task this week, we would like you to find an object from nature, like a leaf, pine cone, rock or log. Use this object to make lots of interesting marks, such as rubbings, rolling in paint and printing. Explore how many different marks you can make using this natural object. You can use lots of different media (pens, paints, crayons or even mud!). Our artist of the term Hiroshige was inspired by nature and we want you to explore it like he did. Bring in your home learning on Wednesday 12th May.

We hope you have a lovely weekend! Keep safe and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
