One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly Learning 25.03.22

This week:

In English this week, the children started off by writing a character description of Kensuke. The children then planned and wrote a flashback focusing on tenses and writing in role.

At the start of the week, in maths, the children consolidated their skills in reflecting and translating shapes. Towards the end of the week, the children used their understanding of scale to work out missing coordinates of shapes.

In Topic, the children completed their study of this term’s topic with a quiz where teams tested their knowledge on all that had been learnt over the course of this term.

Next Week:

In maths next week, the children will be revising their understanding of circles by finding the radius, diameter and the area of a circle. In addition, they will be reviewing and applying their understanding of the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes.

In English, the children will continue to read Kensuke’s Kingdom. They will be writing their own message in a bottle in the role of Michael to his parents. The rest of the week will focus on reciprocal reading skills and creative outcomes.

This week the children will resume their RE learning focusing on religious expression through art.

Love to Learn

The Speaker Competition: we would like to remind the children, that next week, we are holding the first round of the Speaker Competition. If the children would like to enter, the speech should be no longer than 2 minutes and focus on the title ‘Is it a wonderful world?’ They should bring their speech to school and be well rehearsed in delivering it as it is all about oracy skills and presentation techniques.

For the other Love to Learn this week, we would like the children to bring in a plastic bottle. This will be used as part of a writing task. In addition, we would like the children to bring in one of the following to paint such as a piece of driftwood, a pebble or a shell. It has to be something natural. The children will need to bring these in on Monday.

Art Competition

We are very excited to announce that we have been invited to enter the Turner Contemporary's annual art competition.

This year’s theme Belonging is inspired by the work of Ingrid Pollard who will be bringing her major solo show to Turner Contemporary in Summer 2022. Pollard uses film, photography, sculpture and installation to explore ideas of identity.

This will be explored more throughout our PSHE topic next term; Be Here, Be You, Belong.

As well as taking part in art work within school, we are asking you to design something at home! With the theme being ‘belonging’ you can design anything from a painting, sculpture, contemporary dance or speech!

The winner of this competition will have their work exhibited at the Turner contemporary!
