Weekly News! 04.10.24
Thank you to all the parents who joined us (and sang along) for our Harvest Bangers assembly on Monday.
English
This week, we have continued reading 'Floodland' following Zoe's arrival at Eels Island. We wrote a setting description of the Eel island, focusing first on prepositional phrases and then on sentence openers. We also created a show-piece focusing on weaving action and description. Next week, we will be focusing on character descriptions.
Maths
This week, we have been looking at multiplication. Initially, we recapped how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 100 using a place value slider before moving on to study multiples and factors and halving and doubling. Next week, we will be practising formal methods of multiplication.
Thematic curriculum
This week, we have to continued to work on our 'Darwin's Delights' Thematic unit. We looked at inherited characteristics and variations (thank you to all those parents who sent in selfies!) before designing an offspring and considering both its inherited characteristics and the variations from its parents. We also then looked at a number of famous places in the UK for fossil discovery, including Lyme Regis. Next week, we will be classifying plants and animals. We also looked at French foods, experimented with different gradient pencils in Art and looked at IP addresses in Computing.
For the children's Love to Learn task this week, please could they write a letter to Mrs Winchcombe by next Friday (11th) telling her why you feel you would be a good peer mediator.
What is a peer mediator:
-
Peer mediators are clearly identified by their hoodies and work in pairs in their school playground to help children who are involved in a squabble but don’t know how to sort it out.
-
The mediators encourage the children to talk about the problem openly and calmly and then come to a solution which is fair for all concerned.
