Weekly News 23.3.26
This week Year 3 started the week off with a bang! We had great fun for our Roman Dress-up day, we learnt all about the different clothes that Romans wore, the different Gods and Goddesses and we then made our own Larariums.
Maths
This week in Maths, we have been exploring Carroll and Venn diagrams. We have enjoyed sorting different objects and numbers into groups, thinking carefully about their properties and where they belong. We have also been learning how to add and subtract money, helping us to work out totals and calculate change. We have been practising using pounds and pence, making sure we are accurate with our calculations and understanding how money works in real-life situations Next week in Maths, we will be continuing our learning by focusing on time. We will be practising how to read the time to the nearest minute, using both analogue and digital clocks. We will also be comparing and understanding different units of time, including seconds, minutes, and hours, helping us to see how they relate to each other.
English
This week in English, we have been writing diary entries as different characters from our story The Magic Faraway Tree. We have really enjoyed stepping into the characters’ shoes and imagining their thoughts and feelings. We have focused on writing in the first person, using a variety of sentence openers to make our writing more interesting. We have also been practising using compound and complex sentences to add more detail and improve the flow of our work. Next week in English, we will continue writing in role as our characters, building on the skills we have been developing. We will be focusing on organising our writing into clear paragraphs and varying our sentence lengths to make our work more engaging and effective. At the end of the week, we will complete a Showpiece piece of writing, where we will bring together all of the skills we have learned so far
Thematic
In Thematic this week we learnt about the different Gods and Goddesses the Romans worshipped, we made Larariums similar to what would have been found in most Roman homes.
Towards the end of the week we moved on to our RE learning for the term, we have learnt about the Jewish Festival of Passover. Next week, we will continue our RE learning, we will learn more about the Jewish festival of Sukkot and Hanukkah.
