One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News - Friday 10.1.20

Happy New Year to you all! We hope that you had a lovely Christmas.  Welcome back to Chilton. The children have settled back in to school life really well.

Our Term 3 curriculum overview is now on the website (under the Curriculum tab on the main page).  This details what the children will be learning in the different subjects this ter,.

Maths:

This week in maths, the children have been learning about time.  They have been using vocabulary to sequence events (e.g. first, then, next, finally).  They have also been learning to tell the time for o’clock times.  They have done so well at this! Next week, the children will be learning to count on from 10 (or from different multiples of 10).  They will also learn to regroup.

Topic:

This week, in each year group, the children at Chilton have been learning about a different ‘Champion of Courage’.  In Year 1, the children have learned about Joan of Arc.  We have learned about her life and acted out her courageous acts through role play (see the photos below).  The children also wrote a diary entry pretending to be Joan of Arc and they have also created a new banner for Joan of Arc.  Next week, we will be completing our RE unit for this term which is looking at the special books of different religions.

Love to Learn Challenge:

Well done to the children who watched the stories read by Miss Wright, Miss Cheshire and Mrs Walker over the holidays.  These can still be viewed on the blog.

The new Love to Learn task is related to learning to tell the time.  The children could make a clock of their own.  They could try to spot when the time is an o’clock time (this is what we have focussed on this week at school). The children could keep a diary of the things that they are doing throughout the day at o’clock times (e.g. 8 o’clock ate my breakfast, 9 o’clock went to the park etc).  This love to learn will be due in on Wednesday 22nd January.
