One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News - Friday 28.2.20

Welcome back to Term 4! The children have made a great start to what will be another fun and busy term.

This week in maths, the children have been learning to use positional and directional vocabulary. They have done various activities throughout the week to use words such as left, right, forwards, backwards, anti-clockwise and clockwise. They have also been making turns in different sizes (e.g. quarter, half and three quarter turns). Next week, the children will be developing their addition skills further.

This week, in our values learning, we have been focusing on individual liberty.  We have been thinking about our feelings and how our feelings may differ to others (e.g. I might like fairground rides, but others may not enjoy them). Next week, we will be learning about the artist Guiseppe Arcimboldo. We will be exploring his artwork and using his ideas to create our own piece of art. Later on in the week, we will compare his artwork to that of another famous artist.

Love to Learn Task:

We would like the children to consolidate their learning on giving and following directions. They could hide something in the house/garden and then use the maths vocabulary of left, right, forwards, backwards to direct you to the hidden object. Or they could create a treasure map and write some instructions for how to get from the start point to the hidden treasure. These are just a few ideas for what could be done. This home learning is due in on Wednesday 11th March.
