Another week of fabulous learning for Year 1!
In maths this week, the children have been learning to use their number bonds to 10 to add. Next week, the children will be starting to learn about multiplication. They will be starting the week by placing objects in to equal groups and using statements such as 'there are 3 groups of 2 objects'. The children will then move on to representing a statement in an array e.g.
3 lots of 2:
They will do this practically and then recorded in their books. They will end the week by relating this learning to doubling numbers.
In topic this week, the children have been artists! They have learned about Arcimboldo who used fruit to create portraits. The children spoke about his artwork and said what they liked or disliked about it. They then designed and created their own fruit portrait - the end results were amazing! On Friday, the children compared the artwork of Arcimboldo with the artwork of Van Gogh. Next week, the children will be learning about the 7 continents. They will then learn about where food comes from and the different foods which are eaten around the world.
Love to Learn Task:
(Continued from last week): We would like the children to consolidate their learning on giving and following directions. They could hide something in the house/garden and then use the maths vocabulary of left, right, forwards, backwards to direct you to the hidden object. Or they could create a treasure map and write some instructions for how to get from the start point to the hidden treasure. These are just a few ideas for what could be done. This home learning is due in on Wednesday 11th March.
Dates for your diary:
Friday 13th March: sports relief (more information to follow)
Friday 20th March: rock your socks
Friday 20th March: Mother’s Day Lunch
Wednesday 1st April: last day of Term 4, school closes at 2pm
