One Childhood, One Chance

Thursday 21st May 2020

Good morning Team Teal and Team Periwinkle. We hope you have been enjoying the lovely sunny weather this week. It is very nearly the half term break; hopefully the weather stays warm for us.

English

Today in English we will be reminding ourselves about using full stops, capital letters and words to join sentences together (conjunctions). If you click on the link below, you will be taken to the BBC Bitesize website where we would like you to have a go at activities 1 and 2. Firstly, there is a short video to watch to remind you what a conjunction is. Then there are some sentences with lots of mistakes. You need to be the teacher and mark the sentences; correcting any mistakes made. After this there is a funny story called 'The Monster Sitter'. Watch the video and then complete the writing activity.

Capital letters, full stops and conjunctions

Maths

Let's get warmed up. Today I want to to challenge yourself by counting bac from 50 to 0. You may need your 100 square in front of you to help you.

Following on from yesterday we are going to be problem solving using our part, part whole diagrams, but today all our problems will involve subtraction. For example,

Mrs Cheshire bought 15 ice poles. She went to get some from the freezer and there were 0 left. Mrs Walker had eaten 7. How many did Miss Wright eat.

We know we started with 15, which is our whole. Mrs Walker ate 7; this is one of our parts. So we need to find the other part. We can do this using our 100 square or number line. We draw a circle around 15 and count back 7. The number we land on would be our answer.

Click on the word problems attached and have a go at solving them. If you feel confident using larger numbers to can swap the numbers used in the problem for larger ones.

Topic

Yesterday in Topic you investigated some different materials to find out which were waterproof. Today, we want you to design a bath toy that you would enjoy playing with. Draw the toy and label the picture, stating which materials you would make the toy. Remember it would need to be waterproof!

That's all for today. Have a wonderful day!

Mrs Cheshire, Miss Wright and Mrs Walker
