One Childhood, One Chance

Tuesday 9th June

Good morning team Periwinkle and team Teal! We hope you are easing back into your learning this week, we are counting down to seeing some of your lovely faces next week!

SHOUTOUTS

We have had some fantastic learning sent to us. Today we would like to shout out Jessica, she really enjoyed the ‘Cake’ story last week and designed some excellent hats. She also produced some amazing maths work too! Massive well done Jessica!

Oscar was missing everyone today, so he decided to get up, get ready for school and get learning! I must take a leaf out of your book Oscar and start getting dressed when I am learning from home.

Here’s today’s learning:

RWI

The RWI videos will be available, but will take a slightly different form. All videos will be available from 9:30 am so you can choose from set 2 or set 3, whichever you feel your child needs to focus on. There will be reading opportunities for longer words and red words included in each session. Use the link below to find the lessons you need under the different categories.

You tube: Read, Write inc phonics video

If you would rather not use the videos, teach the lesson as follows:

1,   Find the sound ‘aw’ on your sound card and say it lots of times, make sure you are looking at the sound to ensure you remember what it looks like, also say ‘aw- yawn at dawn.’ When you're finished, point to some other sounds too (about 10).

2.    Write down the following words for your child to read (yawn, crawl, straw, squawk, and a challenge word- jigsaw). Remember they need to find the special friends, Fred talk (say the sounds) and then read the word.

3.    Now write down some words for your child to read as a recap of previous sounds learnt (flew, sharp, nurse, cream, bake). This time encourage your child to say the sounds in their head and then say the word aloud.

4.    Ask your child to show you their alien faces! Write down the words cawg, shawd, thawb, plawt. Ask your child to spot the special friends, Fred talk and then read the word.

5.    Now it's time for spellings! One at a time say the following words to your read (yawn, crawl, straw, squawk, and a challenge word- jigsaw). Repeat the word back to each other then ask them to pinch the sounds. When they know how many sounds in the word they can write it down. Help your child to tick or fix (correct) their work.

English

Today we are going to continue with the story from yesterday read by footballer Jessie Lingard. We will complete activity 2 and 3 today.

Activity 2

  1. Read or watch extract 2 again and think about what happens. What do you think are the important events?

If you could only tell your friend three things that happened, what would they be?

  1. Record the three most important things that happen in the extract. Select things from the beginning, the middle and the ending of the extract.

Important thing from the beginning of the text - ......................................................

Important thing from the middle of the text - ......................................................

Important thing from the ending of the text - ......................................................

Activity 3

  1. Read the ending of the second extract again:

Nobody was sure what to do next so we decided to wait until lunch the next day to see if the eyes were in our water jug again.

What do you think the children should do? What advice would you give to them?

  1. Choose a child who you want to advise – Izzy, Maisie, Zach or Jodie.
  2. Draw a speech bubble and write your advice inside to them.

Top tip!

  • You should call the person you are advising ‘you’.
  • You might use this to start you off:

............................................, (insert name of who you are writing to) I think that you should ............................................ because .............................................

You could also ............................................ or .............................................

  • Think about how you will end your advice – maybe Good luck or Take Care.

Maths

To warm up our maths brains today, complete the activity below.

This week in maths we will be focussing on measure. Today’s focus is on capacity using the following key words:

Complete the attached sheet on the capacity of different containers. You might also like to experiment with some containers at home. Try using a standard measure (maybe a cup) then try guessing how many cups different containers might hold. Were you close?

Music

Please use the link and attached sheet to complete the ‘jam jar’ activity.

Have a great Tuesday!
