One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 11th September 2020

What a wonderful week we have had in Year 1! The children have done so well to complete their first full week back at school. We are so proud of them. We are all feeling a bit tired at the moment, so we hope the weekend is a restful one!

Maths

In maths this week, we have been focussing on counting and making sure that we are counting accurately and carefully. We started the week by counting objects and then moved on to counting using a tens frame:

Below are some photos of Team Turquoise using the tens frames.

We also used the Numicon tiles and matched them to the correct numeral. We had to count the holes carefully in the Numicon tile and read the number carefully.

RWI

In Read, Write, Inc, we have been continuing to recap set 1 sounds, read words, read alien words and learn some of the red words (words which cannot be sounded out). We have been practising forming our letters correctly and making sure that we say the sounds correctly.

PSHE

In PSHE, we have been learning about our school values: Respect, Equality, Courage and Kindness. We have explored what each word means and how we can show these values in the classroom and around the school.

Reminders:

  • If you have any pots and pans you no longer need at home, please send them in. Many thanks!
  • PE is on a Tuesday, many thanks for sending in PE kits. If you haven’t done so yet, please make sure it is in school for next Tuesday.
  • Thank you for your support in not coming in to the classrooms or conservatory in the mornings and at the end of the day. The children have shown great independence in being able to sort their things in the mornings – well done!
  • A polite reminder that children are not able to bring things in from home at the moment. If you could remind them about this, we would be very grateful.
  • Reading books will be sent home today (Friday 11th). Once your child has read the book, please place it in the book change box in the morning and the children will be able to change their book at some point during the day. We do not check the children’s book bags so please do place it in the box! Reading book band levels slightly differ from those in reception, so please do not be deterred if your child comes home with a different colour.

Many thanks for all your support! What a great year it will be!
