One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 2nd October 2020

What a fabulous week we have had in Year 1! The children are doing so well. This is a long term, but the children have been amazing and keep on surprising us with how hard they are working in lessons! Keep it up Year 1!

Maths

In Maths this week, we have been learning about odd and even numbers. We used the numicon tiles to help us with this as we can easily see the numbers which are odd and even.

We have also started to learn about addition. We learned that adding is when we put groups of objects together. We worked with our learning partners to find the total of two groups of objects. We then used the tens frame at the end of the week to solve some addition calculations e.g.

5 + 4 = 9

Have a lokk at the photo at the bottom of the blog to see some of the children doing a great job using the tens frame with their learning partner.

Topic

We have started our new topic this week: When I grow up, what will I be? At the start of the week, the children played a game of guess who. The teacher gave some clues about a job and the children had to guess what job it was. They also started to think about what job they would like to have when they are older. We also learned about the job that Mr Oliver does in our school community. We watched a short video about the jobs that Mr Oliver does and then the children wrote some sentences about this. The writing that the children did was AMAZING! We were so proud of them for their fabulous writing! We learned about the jobs that people do in Ramsgate and we thought about whether these places of work are human or physical geographical features (e.g. a teacher works in a school which is a human feature and a lifeguard works at a beach which is a physical feature).

Reminders

  • Please make sure that your child has their reading record and books in school every day (even if they do not need to change the book). We love to listen to the children read and make comments in their reading record so would like them being in every day –many thanks!
  • Many thanks to those who have sent in bits for our outside area. If you have any plant pots, herbs or plants with a strong smell e.g. lavender they could donate we would be hugely grateful.
  • Many thanks for your help in returning PE kits to school for a Tuesday ready for PE lessons.
  • A polite reminder that children are not able to bring things in from home at the moment. If you could remind them about this, we would be very grateful!
  • As part of our topic, we will be making fire engines. If you could send in any old cardboard boxes that would be great.

Many thanks for your continued support. If you have any questions, please send an email (email addresses are on the school newsletters).

Many tanks.
