Weekly Blog - w.b. 4.7.22
It’s the end of another fun-filled week in Year 1. This is what we have been learning about…
Read, Write Inc.
In Read Write Inc we continue to practice reading books, green, red and alien words. We are trying to increase our writing stamina before we transition to Year Two in September! Please encourage writing at home when opportunities arise e.g. birthday cards, postcards and during role play.
This week we have been learning about division and relating it to repeated subtraction on a bar model. For example:
In topic we have been learning about what plants and animals need in order to survive.
We have sorted items into the categories ‘Alive’ (people, plants, animals), ‘Not Living’ (pine cones from the floor, paper) and ‘Never Lived’ (water bottle, chair).
We have also taken some tweezers to real plants and flowers to have a look up close at the parts of the plant.
In RWI… we will be concentrating on our capital letters and full stops in our writing.
In maths… we will be learning about fractions. We will be learning to recognise a quarter of a shape (as one of two equal parts) , to identify half a quantity (to share equally between 2 or 4) and to know that a quarter is the same as half and half again.
In topic…. We will be learning about the Islamic New Year, the Day of Ashura and we will be finding out about Mawlid al-Nabi, Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
Love 2 Learn
