A week with Team Ocean and Team Sky!

Term 3 – Week 1

RWI and Maths

In Read Write Inc this week, some children will have moved groups and will have brand new RWI teachers! They could have Miss Keam, Mrs Welch, Mrs Brown, Mrs Smith or Mrs Archer. We have started the year off with a bang and all teachers have mentioned how impressed they are with the children.

In Maths, we started the week off by making some scrummy jam sandwiches and we later sequenced and wrote instructions on how to make jam sandwiches by using language such as first, next, then, later, after that etc. Later in the week we moved our learning on to recover representing numbers and counting in groups of 10 to count a large number. We had a bag of resources, we had to then group the resources into 10s so we could count quickly e.g. 10, 20, 30, 31, 32, 33. We finished the week by looking at regrouping and exchanging so we could say 10 ones are the same as 1 10 stick.

Values

This week has been values week and we have been learning about Rosa Parks. We explored her achievements and had great discussions about equality, respect and diversity. The children could not believe that is how people were treated just because the colour of her skin. She is definitely a Champion of Courage!

Champion of Sport

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have a fabulous sportsmen come visit Chilton Primary School. He was a long jumper who has competed across the world! The children found his assembly absolutely aspirational, they could not believe how far he could jump – neither could we when we had to move out of the way!
