Weekly news!

Term 6 Week 4

Maths

In Maths this week we have been recapping our learning of days of the week and months of the year. We started the week by looking at the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and learnt what he ate on each day. We then learnt a months of the year song to help us remember how many months in the year there are. We learnt some super facts for example there are 365 days in a year! Later in the week, we took part in a quiz which tested all of our knowledge that we have learnt so far!

Healthy Relationships week - Your Words Can Hurt

This week we have been thinking about how the words we say can hurt others. We have learnt what unkind words are and how they can make us feel. We learnt what to do if someone says unkind things to us e.g. use the stop signal and say 'I do not like it' or to tell an adult. We explored this by saying hurtful things to an apple and also hit it each time to show the bruising and impact our words can have on others.

Topic

This week in Topic we have looked at where food has come from. We discussed the difference between fresh and processed food and how this can impact our bodies. Later in the week, we started to explore maps to see where food comes from in the world. The children were rather shocked to find out about durian fruit and how it has been banned from many places due to it's strong smell. On Thursday and Friday the children went to the fantastic Pizza Express! Team Sky have not stopped mentioning how amazing it was. They were all full of beans and could not stop talking about how they made their very own pizza! What a super start to our new topic!

Home Learning

The first English topic in Year 2, is based on Traditional Tales. On Thursday 4th July, we will be having transition day where we have our very first taster of Year 2 life. For this weeks home learning, we would like you to think about your favourite Traditional Tale. You can represent this in any way that you like. This could be creating your own book and retelling the story, a poster, acting out scenes, creating your own freeze frame pictures and writing captions. It is completely up to you! We would love to display these in the Year 2 classroom next year :)

Notes

- Please make sure children have their PE kits in. PE will run right until the end of term.

- Now the weather is getting warmer, please ensure that children have their water bottle, hat and sun cream with them.

Important dates

- Thursday 4th July - Transition day and open evening 5.30-7.
