Term 2 Week 4
Last week we had such a jam packed week of fun!
Maths
In Maths we started the week off by looking at fractions of a shape. We looked at the fractions ½, ¼ and 1/3. We learnt that the top number is called the numerator and the bottom number of a fraction is called the denominator. Later in the week, we transferred our new knowledge of fractions to finding fractions of numbers. We learnt that the bottom number (the denominator) tells us how many sharing circles we needed to draw to share the objects out equally.
English
In English this week we practised writing bossy commands! We learnt that they could be bossy but they couldn’t be mean – some of the power went to our heads a little! We practised this new sentence writing skill by writing instructions on how to make a Gruffalo pie, how to trick a Gruffalo and to instruct someone to find the Gruffalo’s Child. We have become so good at ensuring we use exciting time conjunctions to start our sentences and to keep them short and snappy when writing a command. Check out some of our learning!
Topic
In Topic we truly kicked our topic off with a humongous bang! On Monday we had the fantastic Paul who came in to show us some super circus skills. We were then lucky enough to have a go at a range of circus skills – we were pretty good at this!
Later in the week, we started to look at the differences between circus’ from the past and present. We learnt that circus’ from the past were in fact very very VERY different. The main differences we found out were about the use of animals, how only men could be clowns for a long time and how they used to have a Freak Show. The children showed such maturity on all of these issues, we had some very grown up remarks about all of these things.
