Weekly News!

Term 3 Week 1

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

We are so impressed with how Year 2 have come in after Christmas and got straight back into the swing of things! Well done to you all!

This week in Maths we have been identifying missing numbers! Firstly, we started looking at missing numbers on a number line and looking at what the ‘rule’ is. For example ( 8,10,12 the rule is +2) We then moved our learning on and started working out where a number should be on an empty number line. We used knowledge we already know about counting in multiples and halves of numbers to work this out. We have now started looking at rounding numbers and have learnt a song to help us!

1, 2, 3, 4 round it down to the floor.

5, 6, 7, 8, 9 round it up all the time!

Champions of Courage!

In Year 2 our Champion of Courage has been… Frida Kahlo!

We have learnt all about her life and her amazing, inspiring art work. We were amazed how courageous she was by fighting back after being so poorly and in pain. She really wanted to ‘Live Life’ and has inspired many people to work hard and keep going! We looked at how she portrayed her feelings within her art and wrote down how we thought she felt when creating her work.

This week we have started a new book… The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl. We have started our week by looking at conjunctions (because, and, although, despite, when, but etc.) These are used to join two sentences together. We are now writing postcards and diary entries as different characters and using our own conjunctions in our writing! We discussed how the characters felt when they were turned into ducks and practised using our facial expressions to show emotion.

Home Learning

This week, we would like you to design your own self portrait like Frida Kahlo! You can present this in any way. You could use paint, Lego, pens and pencils or a computer.  Challenge: Can you show your emotions through your art work.
