One Childhood, One Chance

Welcome back! W/B 8.3.21

Welcome back Team Teal and Team Periwinkle! What an amazing week we have had back together again J

Guided Reading

In Guided Reading this week, we have been exploring the book ‘Max’ by Bob Graham! This story is all about a superhero baby who hasn’t got his powers yet. Here is the book if you would like to take a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05XymTQ5T2M

English

In English this week, we have been looking at using a range of sentence openers to make our writing exciting. We looked at where, time and setting sentence openers such as ‘as the sun rose’, ‘finally’ and ‘over on the hill’. We used these sentence openers to retell the story of Max.

Later in the week, we planned our own version of a superhero story using inspiration from Max. We then wrote our stories ensuring we included a range of exciting sentence openers. Well done Year 2 for all of your super hard work!

Maths

In Maths this week we focussed on shape and symmetry! We started the week by becoming shape detectives and had to find lines of symmetry in a range of shapes and designs. We then looked at symmetrical patterns and drawings. We were superb at completing symmetrical patterns!

We then moved our learning on to learn about 2D shape properties. We had to find the information of 2D shapes from around the classroom to help us to answer tricky problems for example name a 5 sided shape. We moved our learning on by using this knowledge to help us solve problems such as ‘I have 2 shapes in my basket, together there are 7 corners. What shapes could I have in my basket?’

Topic

In Topic this week we have been looking at food chains! We learnt about prey and predator and where food comes from e.g. milk comes from a cow. We created our very own food chains by making paper chain versions to show the sequencing of where animals get there food for example grass – cows – humans.

On Thursday 18th March, we will be making our own insect houses. If you have any shoe boxes or newspaper going spare we would love to use these please.
