One Childhood, One Chance

Team Cyan and Team Turquoise Weekly News w/b 13th SeptemberNew Blog Post

RWI

All the children have been working really hard in their Read Write Inc groups and are producing some great writing. Please keep reading with your child at home as much as you can, we are seeing a huge improvement in their reading and sound recognition already :)

SPaG

In SPaG this week, we have been learning how to spell common exception words. We have done lots of different activities to help the children learn these. The words we have focused on this week are...

Maths

In Maths we have been focusing on addition using a hundred square.

We began using number lines and then moved onto using hundred squares. By the end of the week the children have been solving word problems. We used language such as add, plus, more, altogether, make and total.

Topic

We began our first topic of the term this week which is Time Travellers. Our entry point involved the children talking about their favourite person and why they are important to them. The children then produced some fantastic silhouette portraits of themselves and learnt about the artist Charles Burns. Towards the end of the week the children started learning about the Great Fire of London we had some excellent discussions about it!

Love to learn

Their love to learn task this week is adding on a hundred square OR a two hundred square.

Accelerated Reader

We are still getting through the assessments for Accelerated Reader so please bare with us! We will have these completed by next week. Please see the attached the letter below for more information.

Phonics Screen

Due to Covid, last year the Year 1 Phonics Screen was postponed. The government have stated the children need to complete the Phonics Screen in the second half of the Autumn Term. We will be completing this at some point from Term 2 (after October half term). We keep the whole process very casual, the children are unaware that they are being 'tested' and there is absolutely NO pressure put onto them. I have attached a number of Phonics Screens from the past for you to have a look at. The process for reading the words goes as follows...

1. Special friends

2. Fred talk

3. Read the word

If you would like to have a go at home please feel free to :)

Reminders

PE and the Sports Project will now both be on a Tuesday. Children can come into school in their PE kit. They will no longer need to wear trainers on a Wednesday.

Please remember to tie back any long hair.

Outside the classroom are big plastic tubs for muddy shoes for the children. These can be old trainers, wellies, whatever you do not mind getting mucky!
