HOME LEARNING

Next week, year 2 will be finishing their special booklets (SATs). As they are doing the reading papers, we would like the children to read as much as possible over the weekend and through the week.

LEARNING THIS WEEK

In English this week, year 2 have been describing an African village which links to our class text, 'Grace and family'. The children also described a beach and a park using adjectives, adverbs, verbs as well as using commas in a list. They have also been making African headdresses and shields in preparation for our good to be me parade on Friday afternoon.

In maths, year 2 have been recalling their number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 and applying these with addition and subtraction problems. They have also been partitioning numbers in different ways e.g. 56 = 50 + 6. 56 = 40 + 16. 56 + 30 + 26.

In topic, the children have been investigating different materials. On Monday they sorted materials into groups according to how they felt, using language such as: rough, smooth, hard, soft and fluffy. Also, they created their own investigation and explored which materials were waterproof.

GOOD TO BE ME

This term, our values focused learning has been centred on our ‘Good to be Me’ project. Next week we will be holding two learning sessions where the children will work in mixed aged groups to explore the theme and most importantly, prepare for our celebration afternoon on Friday (24th) May.

We will be holding a Good to be Me parade, starting at 2:15pm on the Key Stage Two playground (top field) and we invite families to come along to watch. Each class will be parading to a song that they have chosen in all their ‘carnival’ finery. The school pedestrian gate will open at 2:00 (please enter this way).

We will be using the concrete on the playground for the parade so please could you position yourselves around the edge of this, ready for our 2:15 start. After the parade, the children will be returning to their classes prior to home-time at 3:15. We will be able to release children early but an adult will have to collect children from classroom doors, otherwise home-time arrangements will run as per routine, including Year 3 collection from the playground. For parents of Team Periwinkle – we will bring the children out to you on the playground as usual if you are collecting early!

Also, just a reminder that the home learning project for Good to be Me should be returned to school on Monday 20th May. Children will be sharing their work with each other and it will then be displayed in classes and in the hall next term. We hope to see lots of you next Friday at 2:15!
