One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News

In Maths this week, we have been consolidating our four operations skills and knowledge with problems relating to measurement. We practiced the fluency of the skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and divisions before solving word problems using these skills. We also discussed how the bar model can be used to help understanding of problems.

In English, we finished our own Ice Palace-esque quests. We ensure that we used a range of fronted adverbials, time conjunctions and prepositional phrases. We also completed an exciting two-day big write following a snowman on a quest. We also looked at how Christmas is celebrated in a number of countries around the world.

In our afternoons this week, we have been looking at the ‘Christmas Journey’ in our RE lessons. We also watched the Year 2 nativity, which we really enjoyed, on Monday afternoon. Stacey was in on Friday continuing to work with the children on their drama productions.

We are still encouraging the children to play as much Times Tables Rockstars (ttrockstars.com) at home. When logging in, please select ‘Chilton Primary School, Ramsgate’. Children’s log ins are the same as their MyMaths log ins (please see your teacher if you need your child’s log in).

For their Christmas home learning, we would like children to watch the Year 4 teachers’ reading video on the school website.

MONDAY 16th DECEMBER will be class party day. Your child will be given a slip with a food/drink on for them to bring in.

MONDAY 16th DECEMBER will also be board game morning. Year 4 children are invited to bring in their favourite (non-electrical) board game to play with their friends.

Online book club!

So that the children can share their reading choices we have created an online book club. When they have read a book that they have loved, they can log in and write a review on our site. The link to this site is below:

The children will be given a password so only the children and families of Year 4 can view comments.

We can't wait to see what they are reading!

Christmas Reading Challenge

It is safe to say at Chilton Primary School, we love to read! We love to read in class, in the forest school, outside on the playground, in the library and in lots of comfy and cosy places around the school. In order to encourage children to read as much as possible over the Christmas holidays, we are setting a Festive Reading Challenge! We ask children to send in a picture of them reading a book that they love in a festive setting. This might be wearing their favourite Christmas jumper, sat next to their Christmas tree, or maybe even with the big man himself. Please can photos be emailed to Miss Davey on: emily.davey@chiltonprimary.co.uk.

We will pull out two winners on the first Friday after Christmas during Chilton Heroes assembly. The winner will receive a book of their choice from the Scholastic website.

Happy Festive reading!
