One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News

Look what Year 4 have been up to this week!

Weekly News – 8th March 2019

What an amazing World Book Day at Chilton this week! Thanks for all the effort put in to the wonderful costumes worn by the Year 4 children yesterday!

In our Maths lessons this week, we have been looking at different money problems and using the four operations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication) to solve them. We have used different methods for each of the operations and used them to solve various problems.

In English, we have continued looking at ‘Tales of Wisdom and Wonder’, reading an old English fable titled ‘The Pedlar of Swaffham’. The tale was about a man following his dreams by journeying from Swaffham to London and being rewarded. We wrote comparisons of London Bridge between the Middle Ages and now before writing home as John Chapman to his wife informing her of his decision to follow his dreams. On book day, we completed descriptive big writes.

Team Aqua continued their Computing unit, learning how to use ‘Paint’ to draw on a laptop. Team Topaz refreshed their knowledge of French numbers and asked each other how old they are and answering.

Year 4 finished their ‘Material World’ IPC topic, with an exciting litter picking exit point in the park before beginning their new topic, titled ‘Active Planet’. We answered and discussed our big question ‘Is the Earth Alive?’. We also had an exciting entry point, were we had to act as if an earthquake had hit Chilton! We had different roles and created a relief centre for those who had been effected by the earthquake.

Home learning:

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!

We are setting a home learning competition to create a shoebox space scene. This can be anything you want it to be, but must be space themed. Small prizes will be given to the winners from each year group. Additional credits will be awarded for accuracy, creativity and imagination. Good luck!    Deadline: Monday 18th March.
