One Childhood, One Chance

Ancient Greek Times in Year 5!

The civilisation is at the centre of the Year 5 topic The Great, The Bold and The Brave.

Pupils stepped back in time to explore the past in a special day celebrating and experiencing the nation’s culture and heritage

Children and staff dressed as their favourite ancient Greek character and took part in a number of diverse activities to try and capture a real feel of the topic they are studying.

This included creating a Greek maze based on Theseus and the Minotaur, designing their own Greek mythological creature for their own Top Trump cards, making Greek pots using clay, learning a Greek dance, trying new and interesting Greek foods.

The way that the Olympics was born and developed also formed part of their day of discovery as they compared and contrasted modern sports with ancient activities that became the backbone of The Games.

To celebrate they held an Olympic torch run around the school fields.

Assistant Head of School Matt Lamprell said special themed days enrich children’s learning and encourages them to delve deeper into the subject on a range of levels.

He said: “This learning is part of our thematic curriculum at Chilton that consists of a wide range of subjects designed to provide our children with a well-rounded education”
