- ART COMPETITION

The Margate Rotary's Young Artists' Festival 2025

The theme this year is British Wildlife and Living on the Coast.

To enter, please create your artwork on an A4 sized piece of paper. Any medium can be used but it must be able to fit within a frame. Write your name, age and class on the back of the artwork and return to your class teacher by WEDNESDAY 2nd APRIL.

- SATS (Standard Assessment Tests) Week commences on Monday 12th May.  Year 6 children are welcome to come into school from 08:00 on Monday - Thursday of this week for complimentary breakfasts.  In the past, this has been an opportunity for children to settle tummies, see their friends and prepare for the day.  We would encourage everyone to come along!

- Please remember to sign up to Parent/Teacher Consultations, which commence next week.  If you cannot make the selected times, please speak with your child's class teacher for an alternative slot.

English

On a world map, the children have been tracking the journey of the family in Kensuke's Kingdom as they sail around the world in the Peggy Sue yacht.  From this, we wrote log books in the role of Michael, the main character.  We focused on a range of tenses and emotive language.  On Friday, we were able to write this up into a real-looking log book, with sketches and information of the journey.

Maths

As well as revisiting all of our previous learning, we have been looking at the relationship of angles: opposite angles are the same; angles in a triangle and straight line total 180 degrees; angles in a quadrilateral add up to 360 degrees.  We were then able to find missing angles using this information.  The children were also able to draw and measure angles using a protractor.  We have been challenging our arithmetic understanding in fun ways, like an orienteering task:

Love to Learn

As we have been studying angles this week, we would like you to go on an angle hunt!  What angles can you see in nature, your room, house or out and about?  You can present this any way you wish but remember to name your angles:

angles less than 90 degrees are acute

90 degrees is a right angle

91 - 179 degrees are obtuse

180 degrees is a straight line

angles greater than 180 degrees are reflex

a full turn is 360 degrees
