One Childhood, One Chance

New Blog Post

Year 5

Welcome to Term 3, we hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Pegwell Bay visit – Wednesday 16th January 2019.

Ancient Greece Day – Friday 25th January 2019.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Learning this week:

It has been Values week at Chilton and year 5 have been learning about Eleanor Roosevelt and the extreme courage she demonstrated when she was the First Lady and beyond.

In English, the children have been creating their own comic strip based on the Greek Myth ‘Pandora’. They have enjoyed retelling the story and adding humorous captions and images.

In Maths, the learning has been focused on finding and applying rules in sequences and rounding whole numbers.

Home Learning:

Please complete the mymaths challenge set.

For your SPaG challenge, look for and record, cut and stick or photograph examples of where parenthesis (a word or phrase inserted as an explanation or afterthought into a passage which is grammatically complete without it, in writing usually marked off by brackets, dashes, or commas) has been used in different texts: eg. a reading book, newspaper, poster or online article.
