Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 17th March

We have had a really lovely week in Reception!

Requests

Many thanks to the lovely photos you have sent in of your child as a baby/toddler to help start our new topic in Term 5. If you have not yet sent these in, please do so ASAP. Please email them to Mrs Cotton or Mrs Walker. Many thanks!

We politely ask that anything from home stays at home as we do get very upset children if things are lost or broken. If there is something you would like to show the class relevant to learning, we are more than happy to keep it safe during the day to then use in our learning time.

Easter information:

Easter will soon be here and we will be holding our traditional Easter egg hunts and bonnet parade in school. Children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 are invited to make an Easter bonnet or hat if they would like to and bring it in to school on the final day of term (Friday 31st March). We will hold a parade in the hall for parents to come along to at 10:00 and prizes will be awarded for the most impressive creations.

For children in Years 3 – 6, they are also invited to enter the Key Stage Two bonnet / hat competition. This will be judged in year groups with prizes awarded.

Reading sessions:

From term 5, parents will be invited in each Monday at 3pm to read with your child. This will run until 3:10pm.

Phonics

In Term 4, we continue to complete our RWI sessions in small groups each day. We will be continuing to learn Set 1 sounds. Some groups will be focusing on learning special friends. This is where 2 letters make 1 sound (e.g. sh, th, ch, ng).

Miss Gorham and Mrs Walker’s groups have started to learn Set 2 sounds:

ay – ay, may I play (play, stay, clay)

ee – what can you see (feet, see, seen)

igh – fly high (night, sight, tight)

ow – blow the snow (snow, blow, flow)

oo –poo at the zoo (zoom, soon, moon)

oo – look at the book (bool, shook, cook)

ar – start the car (car, far, star)

or – shut the door (fork, pork)

air – that’s not fair (fair, pair)

ir – whirl and twirl (shirt, skirt)

ou – shout it out (out, about)

oy – enjoy the toy (toy, boy, enjoy)

Maths

This week we have been learning to subtract. We have done this by using practical resources to take away the correct amount. We have also extended our subtraction understanding to subtract by crossing out the correct number of objects.

Next week we will be learning about shapes and repeating patterns.

Topic

This week we have finished our topic on Space. The children have absolutely loved this topic and have learned so many interesting facts! This week the children worked in teams to design and make a rocket. They thought carefully about what materials they would use and how they would join the materials together. Below are some photos of the children making their rockets.

Next week we will be learning about the Hindu festival of Holi.

Important Dates:

  • Friday 24th March – parents are welcome to come in to school to look at children’s books at 3:10-3:45pm
