One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 23rd June

We have made it to the end of week 3! Thank you to everyone who joined us this afternoon for our amazing Summer Fair. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

Phonics

This week in RWI children have been building their independence in their writing and reading skills. We orally rehearse our sentences before we write to ensure we remember what we are writing. This helps as there are so many other skills we must remember when writing including capital letters, finger spaces, fred fingers and full stops. Most children continue to learn set 2 special friends including recognising and reading words with them in.

Maths

This week in maths we have been learning addition by tapping and counting on. We had to use our subitising skills during these activities too. It was such a great week of learning, and children enjoyed challenging themselves to further their learning. Most children can confidently create addition calculations from number problems given.

Next week we will be working on our recall of number bonds to 10.

Topic

We have continued our dinosaur learning this week. We started by learning the names (and pronunciation) of some dinosaurs. Together we thought of words to describe the dinosaur including its features eg claws, spines, horns. We used this to create songs to the tune of, ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It.’ Our class verse in team Peacock was as follows:

You’re a scary spinosaurus with sharp claws, You’re a scary spinosaurus with sharp claws,

You’re a scary spinosaurus with spines down your back,

You’re a scary spinosuarus with sharp claws.

We created further verses in our house teams and practised them together including actions to enhance our performance. We came together to then perform our songs in front of the class. The children were confident and proud to share their creations and the best houses won a prize.
