Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

30th June 2023

ROAAAR'some learning!

This week, the children have  shown us their readiness for year 1. All of a sudden, Team Peacock and Azure no longer look or act like the littlest members of Chilton School, and they seem ever ready for their ventures beyond reception, not that the teachers are quite ready to say goodbye yet!. The end of this term sees a busy schedule, the children have lots too look forward to, so we have included some important dates and events for you below:

-Monday 3rd July- Reception sport’s day from 9:15-12. Please make your way to the top field, a map will be available on the day.

-Chilton transition days for Years R – 5 – Monday 17th July to Wednesday 19th July - The children will spend three days with their teachers for the new academic year.

-Inflatable Fun Day – Thursday 20th July - We will have several inflatables on the playground for a reward for all of the children at the end of the school year.

-Final Day of Term – Friday 21st July - We will be waving goodbye to our Year 6 children from 1:00 and the rest of the children will finish school at 2:00

-Warmer weather- as the weather continues to stay warm, please ensure you send your child in with a water bottle and sun hat. We also advise that you apply suncream in the mornings.

Phonics

The children have been focusing on learning set 2 sounds, reading and writing these in words. Here is a link that goes through the set 2 sounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1Wc5y5eIgA

The children love writing their sounds using a range of tools to disco music, practising how they look and sound repeatedly in order to remember them.

We are continuing to see the children applying their skills learnt through the Read Write Inc programme to their reading. The children have been saying the sounds in a word in their head before reading it aloud, also known as ‘Fred in your head’, may we ask you to encourage this when reading at home too.

We greatly appreciate the efforts made at home when reading and writing with your children, it really does show in their confidence during school.

Maths

This week, we have been focussing on number bonds to 10. The children started the week getting creative by drawing around both their hands and cutting them out. We used this to answer number bond questions by pushing the fingers down to see how many we had left. We carried on the week with a range of number bond activities such as dominoes, using the stegosaurus’ plates on his back, matching the dinosaur number bond eggs with each other and colouring in the dinosaurs to show number bonds.

Next week we will be focussing on ordering events by making our very own jam sandwiches.

Thematic

The children have been reading the story ‘The Dinosaur’, following the adventure of a dinosaur egg and meeting a range of dinosaurs on the way. The children have been looking at what dinosaurs would have eaten, putting them in categories of herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. They even designed their very own dinosaur and had to think about what it ate and where it would live to suit its eating requirements.  The children have been writing about dinosaurs, naming important features.

Next week we are reading a story called ‘dinosaur farm’ which the children will be using to help them look after their own dinosaur.

We hope you have a restful weekend, see you Monday!
