One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 29.9.23

What a wonderful week we have had.

We have had a fabulous week of learning and fun!

Take a look to see what we have been up to!

Read, Write Inc.

This week we have been working incredibly hard in our Read, Write, Inc groups. We have been really focussing on our handwriting this week, and ensuring we are forming our letters correctly. We have also been trying to be super speedy when reading our set 1 and 2 sounds. In your child’s reading folders, you will find some set 1,2 and 3 sounds and also some red words. Any practice with these would be wonderful!

Maths

In Maths, we continued using part, part wholes. We learnt what the word partition means and partitioned a range of tricky numbers, using objects from around the classroom. Some of us went beyond 10 and worked super hard!

Next week, we will be focussing on subtraction!

Our number fact of the week is 1+1

Art

The artist we learnt about this week was Piet Mondrian. We discussed our favourite pieces and had a go at creating our own!

Thematic Curriculum

This week we have been focussing on Design Technology! We started the week off by looking at cars from within our living memory. We looked carefully at the design and shape of cards from the 1960s. We then compared them to cars in the present. We chose a design we liked and had to create our own, labelling the wheels, axels, headlights, and windscreen. We then moved on to making our own cars! We had to carefully attach the wheels and axels and follow our plans from the previous lesson. We ended the week by having a gallery walk to explore and evaluate each other’s vehicles. With our learning partners, we discussed which era the cars were from and how we could tell, what we liked about the designs and why, and made some suggestions for improvements. We paid particular attention to the wheels and axels, comparing them to those of toy cars in our classroom.

Next week we will be focussing on geography!

Love to Learn

This week we would love for you to practise writing your full name, ensuring that the letters are formed correctly. This can be done however you wish. You could use chalk, glitter pens, writing in sand or even writing in shaving foam!

Just a few messages for you...

PE this term will be on a Wednesday.

Sports project will be on a Tuesday – Only trainers are needed, with full school uniform.

Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time).

Mrs Reavill will be teaching Team Peacock every Tuesday.

Reading

Read at 3 - Every Friday at 3 our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child, please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading.

Reading folders - All children will bring home two books, one being a RWI home book. Children are expected to try and read this three times during the week to ensure they are building on their reading fluency. The RWI home books will be changed by an adult every Friday.

The other book (with the coloured sticker) should be changed independently by the child themselves - first thing in the morning is a great time to do this!

Please ensure that the reading folders are placed in the reading-coloured trays, so we can read with your children and ensure books get changed. Thank you for your support with this!

Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly.

Dates to remember...
