One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 17.11.23

Wow, what a wonderful week it has been!

Read, Write Inc.

This week we have continued working incredibly hard in our Read, Write, Ink groups. We have been practising spotting our sounds and then using fred talk to read words. We have also been continuing to use our fred fingers to help us write the words in our books, but not for the red words, because we all know you can't fred a red! We have been working hard on our writing and making sure all our letters are formed correctly. In your child’s reading folders, you will find some set 1,2 and 3 sounds and also some red words. Any practice with these would be wonderful!

Storytime!

This week we looked at Cinderella. We loved guessing what the tale was going to be by exploring props from the story and making up actions to go with it. We made story maps and even had a go at innovating, creating our own version. Ask us all about it!

Reading

Read at 3 - Every Friday at 3 our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child, please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading.

Reading folders - All children will bring home two books, one being a RWI home book. Children are expected to try and read this three times during the week to ensure they are building on their reading fluency. The RWI home books will be changed, by an adult, every Friday.

The other book (with the coloured sticker) should be changed independently by the child themselves - first thing in the morning is a great time to do this!

Please ensure that the reading folders are being placed in the reading-coloured trays, so we can read with your children and ensure books get changed. Thank you for your support with this!

Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly.

Maths

In Maths, we have continued our learning of money by adding different amounts together and making amounts. We started the week by revising what the coins were and partitioning the amounts using different coins, i.e. 7p= 5p+2p. We explored different ways we could make amounts, using different coins. For example, 10p + 5p = 15p, but also 10p + 2p +2p +1p = 15p. We loved this learning and had a wonderful morning of playing shops! Next week we will be focussing on measuring and length!

PSHE

In PSHE this week it has been based on healthy relationships; we have been learning all about being kind, but also having a focus on being kind to ourselves! We practised talking positively about ourselves, discussed the importance of sleep, exercise and feeling relaxed and looked at what else we can do to support us mentally and physically. We had a look at Chilton’s child friendly, child protection policy and discussed who keeps us safe at home and at school. We ended the week by looking at the meaning of bullying and the qualities of a good friend.

Today we linked our learning to our story time book, Cinderella. We focussed on the word empathy and discussed it’s meaning. We talked about how to put ourselves in other people’s shoes and took on the role of her to discuss the way she may have felt or shown kindness. We spoke about our own experiences when seeing someone who is sad, and what we did to support them. Take a look at our wonderful ideas!

Next week we will be heading back to our thematic learning and looking at some famous weather scientists, the equator and seasonal weather patterns.

Love to Learn

This week, as we have been focussing on being kind to ourselves, physically and mentally, we would love for you to take some time during the weekend to do something you enjoy! You may want to play a game, put some decorations up  (is it too soon?) or maybe go on a lovely, relaxing walk. This can be recorded, but only if you wish!
