One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News w/b Monday 31st October - Team Indigo and Team Royal

Blog

What a fantastic first week back Team Indigo and Team Royal have had! Take a look at what we have been learning.

Maths

This week in maths we have been focusing on Geometry. We started the week with finding the lines of symmetry in 2D shapes. We then looked at the properties of 2D Shapes by counting how many vertices and sides there were.

RWI/English

This week in RWI we have been concentrating on our set 3 sounds and re-reading our sentences to check it makes sense. We have also been checking for capital letters, spelling mistakes and full stops.

This week in English we have been looking at the book The Clown by Quentin Blake. The story doesn’t have any words in so we looked at the illustrations and discussed how the clown was feeling. We started the week by looking at first person. Next, we imagined we were the clown and how he must be feeling and used emotive language to describe different emotions from the book. We then looked at time opener sentences. We went into groups and acted out parts of the story. The poor clown keeps getting thrown out by the adults and put in the bin! The children were wonderful at acting the part! We finished the week writing a diary imagining we were the clown and used all our skills we had learnt in the week together.

Topic

This week we have started our new Topic The Greatest Show! We began by answering big questions in our topic and having a talent show and we had a variety of great circus performers. We then looked at the artist Patty Vicknair and her paintings on clowns, we discussed what we liked, disliked and felt about the art. Next, we created our own clown drawings and then used face paint to make our clown drawings come to life! We had so much fun painting our faces! We finished the week off by being Historians and looking at circuses from the past.

SPaG

This week in SPaG, we have been focusing on subordinating conjunctions, here are a few examples:

The children were excited because it was nearly Christmas.
You can have your cake if you eat your pasta.
I will play outside when I get home.

Below is a link to a great song we have sung this week to help us with our learning.

Next week in:

Next week in maths we will be learning multiplication. We will start off the week investigating odd and even numbers using Numicon to help us. Then we will look at repeated addition and arrays.

Next week in Topic we will be learning more about the history of the circus and if it was kind to have animals as acts in the circus. Later in the week we will be looking at maps and creating our own map for our circus.

Next week in SPaG we will be learning how to identify adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs.

Read at 3

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and adults that were able to attended this week’s Read at 3 with the children. It was lovely to see you all and hear everyone read. We welcome you all to come to hear your child Read at 3 if you can every Wednesday. Please note this is for the full 15
