What a superb week! Take a look a what we have been up to…

Maths

This week in Maths, we have recapped our previous learning of time! We looked at the difference between the two hands on a clock, looked at the relationship between second, minutes and hour and learnt how to read and make o’clock and half past times.

We have been using this language to support us.

Fact of the week:

Next week our Fact of the Week is

3 + 7 = 10

English

This week in English we continued looking at the book Rapunzel written by Bethan Woolvin. This week we have looked at expanded noun phrases. An expanded noun phrases add more detail to the noun by adding one or more adjectives.

RWI

In RWI this week we have been focusing on building up their fluency when reading, this included their pace, speed, expressions and reading punctuation. Any additional practice at home will be hugely beneficial.

SPAG (Spellings, Punctuation and Grammar)

This week in SpaG we have been focusing on spelling and reading common exception words. Common exception words are words where the usual spelling rule doesn't apply. As children come across unfamiliar spelling and sound patterns in tricky words, their phonics knowledge won't always help them to sound out and read the word; such as the common exception words "sugar", "improve", "climb" and "because".

Thematic curriculum

This week we have finished off our learning on the unit Sow and Grow. We started the week by going on a walk to Nethercourt Park to look at the differences between deciduous and evergreen trees at this time of year. We discovered that deciduous trees leaves were turning brown and were starting to fall off their branches whereas the evergreen trees still looked luscious!

We completed our final quizzes of the term to check out all of the knowledge we have learnt so far. What a great unit Sow and Grow was!

Art

This week in Art we created artwork inspired by Henri Matisse, Gustav Klimt or Georgia O’Keefe. We were only given primary colours so we had to mix the colours we needed and then some of us added white or black to create tints and tones. What fantastic artists we have in Year 2!

Next week in:

Next week in English we will be continuing Rapunzel by Bethan Woollvin. We will be exploring writing a narrative looking at every element we have been focusing on so far. We will be looking at time openers, conjunctions, adjectives and expanded noun phrases.

Next week in Maths we will be continuing with time. We will be looking at quarter past and quarter to times.

Next week in Religious Education, we will be looking at Leaders and Teachers. We will be discussing the difference between a Leader and a Teacher and what their roles are within Religions.
