One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 20.10.23

What a superb week! Take a look a what we have been up to…

Maths

This week in Maths, we have continued learning time! We looked at how to read and make o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We even made our very own clocks to help us tell the time. Today we started to look at time facts and we needed to find how many minutes in an hour and how many hours in a day. Below is a time fact sheet we used to help us in our learning.

We have been using this language to support us.

Fact of the week!

Next week our Fact of the Week is

4 + 6 = 10

English

This week in English we continued looking at the book Rapunzel written by Bethan Woolvin. This week we have looked at varying our sentence openers, using conjunctions and planning and writing our own narrative about a character stuck in a tower.

RWI

In RWI this week we have been focusing on building up their fluency when reading, this included their pace, speed, expressions and reading punctuation. Any additional practice at home will be hugely beneficial.

SPAG (Spellings, Punctuation and Grammar)

This week in SpaG we have been continually focusing on spelling and reading common exception words. Common exception words are words where the usual spelling rule doesn't apply. As children come across unfamiliar spelling and sound patterns in tricky words, their phonics knowledge won't always help them to sound out and read the word; such as the common exception words "sugar", "improve", "climb" and "because".

Here is a list below of the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words.

R.E

This week in R.E we have been looking at Leaders and Teachers in different religions. We looked what the challenges were of being a leader, and why leaders are important. We asked and answered questions for example, Why do people wants to be leaders? What makes a good leader? We then looked at religious leaders and their special books and to understand the importance of global religious leaders. Finally we then  learnt the names, clothing, places of worship, special books and responsibilities of religious leaders.
