Maths

This week in maths we have looked at odd and even numbers, repeated addition and arrays. Take a look at some of our maths below…

 

 

Fact of the week!

English

This week in English we have continued ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ by Julia Donaldson. We have been focusing on different word classes and conjunctions. We have also continued to work on constructing simple sentences accurately, and we even had a go at editing and improving our own writing!

RWI

In RWI this week we have been focusing on building up fluency when reading, this included focusing on pace, speed, expressions and reading punctuation. Any additional practice at home will be hugely beneficial.

 

SPAG (Spellings, Punctuation and Grammar)

This week in SpaG we have been looking at the sound i-e, i, y, igh, and ie. We have learnt that these sounds all sound the same. We read the words, circled the right sound and then sorted the words.

Thematic curriculum

This week we have continued the unit Fire Fire! We started the week by discussing different jobs people have today. We then looked at jobs in the 17^th century for example, blacksmiths, chimney sweeps, firefighters, gong farmers, rat catchers. We then had to order them from our favourite to least favourite and to explain why. To end the week, we looked at Firefighters in the past and what equipment they used, their skills and uniform, and compared what is similar and what is different to now.

Art

This week we used pipe cleaners to practise plaiting using three different colours. We then used what we had learnt in the previous week to shape and mould the clay into 3 equal lengths. We then began to plait the clay, take a look at us in action!

Handwriting

In Handwriting, we have been practising our print letters using the RWI patters. Super handwriting Team Aqua and Team Topaz!

Next week in:

Next week in English we will continue The Gruffalo’s Child and look at time conjunctions and constructing sentences accurately.

Next week in PSHE is our kindness week and we will be looking at how we can be kind to ourselves physically and mentally. Knowing what to do if someone is unkind and knowing the difference between unkind behaviour and bullying.

Next week in maths we will be looking at division using concrete apparatus to solve division problems of sharing and grouping.

Wednesday 13th December – Year 2 Christmas Performance (doors 9:00 for a 9:15 start)

Christmas Fair from 3:30 Thursday 14th December

Friday 15th December – Christmas Jumper Day (just for fun) and Christmas Dinner School ends at 2:00

Term 3 starts for Children Wednesday 3rd January

Reminders:

Please may you bring in wellies for the children to use at lunch time on the field.

 

Sports Project is on a Monday (please wear trainers and normal school clothes).

 

PE is on a Tuesday afternoon please can all children come into school in their PE kits (plain navy or black shorts or trousers, plain white t-shirt and a navy sweatshirt).
