One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 8.12.23

What another great week for Team Aqua and Team Topaz. Check out what we have been up to!

Maths

This week in maths we have looked at money! This week we have used our hundred square to help us find different ways to make the same amount using coins. We looked at what we wanted to purchase for example we wanted to buy a pencil for 19p we used a 10p, 5p and two 2p’s to make 19p. We also used 19 1p’s, we challenged ourselves to find as many ways as we could to purchase our item using different coins. Later in the week we looked at being able to give change from £1. We looked at what we wanted to purchase and used the count on method using our 100 square to help us. For example, if we purchased a banana for 75p we would count on using this method:

We were then able to calculate the change we needed. We will be continuing money next week too!

Fact of the week!

Next week our Fact of the Week is

2 X 2 = 4

English

This week in English we continued our book Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. At the beginning of the week, we looked at features of a letter. We then began writing our own Letter to Santa as Stick Man thanking Santa and listing the family's Christmas list. We focused on accurate sentence construction and using commas in a list. We then went through our letters and edited and improved them.

Next week we will be creating a story map of Stick Man, making our own Christmas list and writing a letter to Santa.

RWI

In RWI this week we have been focusing on building up fluency when reading, this included focusing on pace, speed, expressions and reading punctuation. Any additional practice at home will be hugely beneficial.

SPAG (Spellings, Punctuation and Grammar)

This week in SpaG we have been looking at contractions, this is when we join two words together to make them shorter and use an apostrophe. We then learnt some rules for using contractions correctly, for example,

Thematic curriculum

This week we have continued the unit Fire Fire! This week we celebrated the end of our unit by sharing all our wonderful learning with Year 3!
