One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 26.1.24

What a great week Team Aqua and Team Topaz have had! Check out what we have been up to!

Maths

This week in Maths we have been learning about the inverse. We have learnt that for missing number problems we may have to use the opposite method for example 23 + __ = 28 we would do 28 – 23 to find the answer. We used the column method to help us solve these problems.

Fact of the week!

Next week our Fact of the Week is

8 X 2 = 16

EnglishTraction Man Is Here (Traction Man, 1): Amazon.co.uk: Grey, Mini: 9780099451099: Books

This week in English we have started a new book called Traction Man by Mini Grey.

Here is a video of the story if you would like to listen to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JySea288Qo

This week we have been focusing on adjectives, expanded noun phrases, verbs and adverbs. We have used these when writing simple sentences about the characters in the Traction Man.

Next week we will be starting our new book Traction Man is here by Mini Grey!

Guided Reading

This week in Guided Reading we have focused on our reading skills when looking at Traction Man. We have used strategies such as partner read and jump in to help us to build up our fluency. Later in the week we focused on our questioning using words such as who, what, where, when, why.

SPAG (Spellings, Punctuation and Grammar)

This week in SpaG we have looked at the ee sound spelt ey. We already knew that sometimes ee can be spelt with a y so we moved our learning on focusing on words such as monkey, key, journey and donkey!

Thematic

This week in Thematic we continued being geographers! We started the week by learning the 7 continents of the world, the five oceans of the world and what the equator line tells us. We also had the super John and Vanessa from the RNLI come to talk to us all about the Ramsgate Royal Harbour. They told us many stories about heroic adventures, safety aspects and the importance of the RNLI.

Next week we will be continuing being geographers by looking and identifying physical and human features of the local area.

Love2Learn

School Trip

As part of Year 2's Thematic learning, the children will be visiting Ramsgate Harbour. Team Topaz will visit on the morning of Monday 5th February (school uniform and trainers)  and Team Aqua on the morning of Tuesday 6th February (Dress to Impress clothes with sensible shoes – warm clothes if possible as we will be outside!). The children will be transported to and from harbour via the school's minibus - please complete the school's permission form ( this will need to be completed in advance so there are no delays to the trip).

The children will be taken on a guided tour of the harbour by Ramsgate's Harbour Master. He will give a walking tour explaining the different parts of the harbour, their function as well as giving them an insight into Ramsgate Harbour's history. He will also be showing them some areas not open to the public.

This is a morning trip so all children will be back in school for their normal lunchtime. As we cannot predict the weather, please ensure your child has warm, waterproof clothing for this day (trainers are allowed).
