One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 9.2.24

Wow! What a week we have had this week. It has been full of laughs, smiles and interesting facts of the harbour!

Trip

A massive thank you to Matthew Kennedy, the Harbour Master, for his wonderful tour he gave us this week. We had so much fun getting to go to the harbour, getting to go up the lighthouse, seeing the Brown Owl boat and so much more!

What a great start to the week 😊

 English

This week in English, we have celebrated all our learning of Traction Man to write our very own Traction Man story where the mission takes places at the Royal Ramsgate Harbour. We had to include expanded noun phrases, verbs and adverbs to create an action story.

In Art for the last 2 weeks we have been creating illustrations for our stories using charcoal, sketching pencils and pastels.

What superb books we have created!

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been learning how to divide using the grouping and sharing method but with the added challenge of possible remainders! We are so incredibly proud of all the Year 2 children this week, their resilience to solving problems has been truly phenomenal. What a beautiful bunch of Chilton Heroes we have!

Fact of the week!

Next week our Fact of the Week is

9 X 2 = 18

RWI

In RWI this week we have been focusing on building up fluency when reading, this included focusing on pace, speed, expressions and reading punctuation. Any additional practice at home will be hugely beneficial.

 Guided Reading

This week in Guided Reading we have been thinking of the reading skill summarising. We have been summarising the story considering the characters, setting and missions!

Religious Education

In Religious Education, this week we have been learning about Buddhists. We learnt about Siddhartha and how he became known as the Buddha. We learnt about the Buddha statue and what important symbols are on the statue for example the snails. Later in the week, we learnt about the importance of The Wheel of Life.
