One Childhood, One Chance

Year 3 News!

This week it has been hot, hot hot! We are very impressed with how the children have continued to learn in this heat. They have been very sensible, keeping themselves hydrated and heading into the shade during breaks if they get too hot!

English

This week we have been writing in role as Edward - our stuck up, loveless rabbit! We wrote great monologues focusing on how we felt when all of these outrageous events took place! We learnt to link our sentences so that our writing was more coherent. Here's some of our amazing writing up on display! Can you see yours?

Next week we will continue to follow Edward on his adventures... let's hope things get better for him because he is currently laying at the bottom of the ocean! We will be making sure our work is properly punctuated, presented neatly and our spellings applied. It is wonderful to see the children's vocabulary develop so much!

Maths

We have been continuing our learning of capacity and volume, by adding and subtracting amounts and learning how to convert between litres and millilitres. We used  many strategies including a place value slider, our part-part-wholes and partitioning.

Next week we will be learning about mass and length.

Thematic

This week we are learning in Geography. We found out all about biomes and created our own trioramas showing how biomes have different fauna, climates and animals. Next week we will be learning about vegetation belts, where our rainforests are and the layers of the rainforest.

Art and computing

This week Team Turquoise learnt how to tint and tone paints. Team Cyan used Scratch Jr to program a sprite to move!

National Rail competition

Design a rail safety poster on A4 (landscape) all about:

  • Station safety.

  • Level crossing safety.

  • Or on-board train safety.

    The winner will receive:

  • A family day ticket to London including High speed 1 trains.

  • Artwork will be displayed in the Petley arch at the station mounted on boards.

  • You will be invited to the launch of the new station ceremony on 8th September.

  • You will then get your artwork back placed on mounted board.

  • Entries must be in by Wednesday 28th June.

We can’t wait to see your entries!

Reminders

Please make sure children quiz on AR when they have finished a book. Some of the children are doing lots of reading but not passing the quiz at the end. It would be really helpful if you could quiz with them. If this is not possible, please let us know and we can quiz with them at school. Thank you.

Thank you for bringing in additional water bottles, hats and suncream.

Sports day: Monday 10th July – Key Stage 2 (Years 3 - 6) from 9:15

Spellings

We are focusing on our red words in our last term. Attached are a list of Year 2, and the Year 3 and 4 words. Please ask if you are unsure which ones your child should be learning.

Home learning

The competition is on! We would love to have Year 3 win the most quizzes in the school. Please read as much as possible this weekend and get a quiz completed! If your current reading book is long, you can choose a short book on MyOn or take a shorter book from school!

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Year 3 Team
