One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 8.9.23

What a great but hot start to the first term of Year 3. The children have really impressed us with their learning and we are so excited to share what we have been up to.

This week in English, we started a new book called How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth. We began the week with making jam sandwiches to learn how to follow instructions and the importance of being clear. We moved on to learning about chronological order so put our story in the right order. We finished the week with writing instructions for how to wash a woolly mammoth and then followed these instructions to wash our own woolly mammoths (teddies!).

Next week we will be starting another book called The Stone Ag boy which will link to our history and science learning.

This week in Maths we have been looking at place value. We have been learning about hundreds, tens and ones and the value of individual digits in a 3-digit number. At the end of the week we were focusing on 1, 10 or 100 more/less than a given number. The children really impressed us with their effort and we are looking forward to looking at addition next week.

This week we had our first values week focusing on one childhood, one chance. We looked at the Chilton rules and values – specifically how we can follow them. Later in the week, we looked at the zones of regulation and how to cope with different emotions. We finished the week investigating how to be a bucket filler instead of a bucket dipper. On Friday we also had our first art lesson where we explored different sculpture methods and worked as a team to make a paper sculpture!

Love to Learn

READING: Children in Year 3 are expected to read at home at least four times a week. It is really important that the children bring in their reading records daily so that we can check in with progress and read with the children in school. MyOn is a great way for children to read independently. Once a book has been read on MyOn it will ask you to quiz and direct you to the AR website. Please read as often as possible at home. Thank you for your support

Maths: Play the place value basketball game at home
