One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 29th September 2023

What a fantastic week Year 3 have had! Here is what we have been up to.

This week we have finished our work on our class text ‘Stone Age Boy’ by turning it into a play! We wrote our own play scripts, focusing on using colons to separate the speaker from the speech and stage directions, which we have learnt show actions and expression. We then challenged ourselves to write our own play scripts, which you will get to see at the Harvest Festival.

Next week, we will begin reading ‘Lila and the Secret of the Rain’. We will focus on writing recounts from the viewpoint of Lila, using past tense, adjectives to describe emotions and fronted adverbials.

This week we have been learning how to multiply! We began the week by making arrays to solve multiplication calculations using Lego and play doh. We then moved on to multiply by 10, using a place value slider and multiplying two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers.

Next week, we will be moving on to division. We will be focusing on dividing by grouping and sharing amounts and applying this to solve problems. In preparation for this, please login to TTRS and practice your times tables on either Garage or Studio.

In the afternoons we have participated in some very exciting History lessons! We have learnt about how life changed across the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic periods of the Stone Age, and then how life changed in the Bronze and Iron Age.

Next week we will be looking at how art and ceramics changed throughout Prehistoric Britain. We will also discuss the significance of the patterns and then try and replicate these ourselves.

Home Learning

Thank you for your hard work on the home learning last week. For this week, we would love you to choose one from the following tasks:

  • Research Mary Anning and create a poster or fact file about her and her accomplishments.

  • Collect items found outside and create a Harvest collage.

  • Harvest Assembly is on Wednesday 4th October at 9am. We would love to see you there!

  • PE is on a Monday this term. Please send your child to school wearing full PE kit.

  • Sports Project is on a Friday. Please could children come to school wearing their uniform and trainers.

  • Children should be reading at home to an adult at least four times a week and bringing their reading records to school every day.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 3 Team
