Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 19th May 2023

It's been a huge week for year 5, sweeping the Chilton Heroes awards. This goes to show the superb effort and dedication that Year 5 display every day. Well done to all of you!

English

This week in English, we have been writing our own ending to Wolf Brother. We have used skills we have accumulated over the year such as powerful vocabulary, personification and weaving dialogue and action together in a narrative. Next week, we will be continuing with our narratives and publishing our finished work.

Maths

We have been continuing to convert decimals, fractions and percentages this week. Everybody has shown great confidence and wonderful effort when carrying out their maths tasks. Next week we will be interpreting data.

Afternoons

During our thematic curriculum lessons, we have been focusing on hard and soft engineering methods of coastal defence. We then compared both methods and debated which we thought was more effective and why. In out PSHE, we have continued our unit: Be Here, Be You, Be Long. Our focus has been community; what communities we are part of, where they are and how we contribute to them.

Home Learning

This weekend, we would like you to travel to the coast and find evidence of sea defences in your local area. Can you find evidence of both soft and hard engineering?

Viking Games

The Year 5/6 Viking Games will be held on Monday 22nd May at Upton Primary School. Children will need to arrive at school READY TO LEAVE AT 8:30am to walk to Ramsgate Train Station to catch the train to Upton. Children should come to school in their PE kits on the day with a t-shirt in their house colour if possible, with trainers. If the weather is hot, children should bring a hat, wear sun cream and have a water bottle with them. If it turns out to be a chilly day, jogging bottoms and a jumper will be needed! Children in Years 3 – 6 will also need a packed lunch as they will eat at Upton. If your child is eligible for Free School Meals, a lunch will be provided.
