One Childhood, One Chance

PSHE and Healthy Relationships

Our PSHE curriculum draws upon our own contextual knowledge of our children and their needs. Alongside this, we use the curriculum guidance outlined by the PSHE Association and the statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2019 and Teaching Online Safety in Schools.

Each new term begins with learning focused on our school Values (Respect, Equality, Courage and Kindness). These weeks use objectives drawn from the aforementioned documentation and outline learning for each year group at age appropriate levels. Weaved throughout this learning are themes surrounding well-being, diversity and citizenship. British Values are revisited across the year and taught explicitly in Term 4.

For the academic year 2019-20, values learning is focused as follows:

  • One Childhood, One Chance and The Chilton Way

  • Getting on and Kindness

  • Champions of Courage

  • British Values

  • Good to be Me!

  • Involvement

In addition, we also teach three weeks focused on Healthy Relationships:

  • Falling Out and Respect

  • Online Safety

  • Your Words Can Hurt

However, PSHE learning is also interwoven across all aspects of our curriculum, including assemblies. Online safety is a thread that runs through all of our learning on a weekly basis.
