One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 16.5.25

Year 3 have enjoyed another wonderful week of learning. Here's what we've been up to:

Maths
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on our multiplication and division skills. First, we look further at scaling up by completing an investigation using Lego bricks. Next, we looked at dividing. First, in to equal groups then into fractions. Finally, we looked at rounding remainders up or down depending on context. Next week, we will be looking at fractions.

English
This week, we have continued reading Charlotte's Web with Wilbur being taken to the fair. In our writing, we have been focusing on a range of skills to describe a setting. We started our week by heading outside to look at the farm lands at the back of Chilton and to build some vocabulary. We then used expanded noun phrases, verbs and adverbs and a range of openers to complete our setting descriptions. Next week we will be using speech in our character descriptions.

Word of warning for parents - Next week, we will read about Charlotte's death in the book. Please feel free to have any conversations that you think may be required beforehand if you feel this may be a sensitive issue for your child.

Thematic
This week, we completed our Mayan learning and undertook our end of unit Thematic quiz. We learnt about the fall of the Mayan empire at the hands of the Spanish. We also completed our Art unit by designing and making our own wire sculpture of a face and our PSHE 'Be Here, Be You, Belong' unit by making a 'me map'. Next week, we will be studying RE.

Thank you for all the persuasive pieces that came in! The Year 3 teachers have a lot to think about! For the children's love to learn this week, please could the children create their own sculpture. This can be of anything and made from anything but the children should consider how they use the skills of shaping and joining.

Term 5 Dates for your Diary

23rd May – Be here, Be you, Belong celebration. Children can come to school wearing anything they feel represents them as part of our ‘Dress to Express’ day. We will have a parade at 2pm on the field to celebrate this, to which our families are all invited.

Have a wonderful weekend!
