Production

The children who have a speaking role in the Year 6 production of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, will be bringing home a slip of paper with costume ideas for you to start organising. Please email your class teacher if you would like additional help with this.

We would like the children with speaking parts to learn their parts as soon as possible and practise reading with expression and actions as rehearsals are underway.

This Week's Learning

The children have been focussing on their writing this week - they have been writing two types of narrative. The first, an atmospheric fictional piece, The Ghosts of Père Lachaise - the children had to focus on mood, tone and atmosphere to describe the movements of a young girl having a piano lesson with the famous composer Chopin - who resides at the cemetery. The second piece was a narrative for the film version of The BFG, showing differences in language used by the Queen (formal) and the BFG (informal).

We have also continued to read our class text - the last of Year 6 - The London Eye Mystery. The children are keen to find out what has happened to Salim.

Virtual Reality WW2 Experience

On Monday, we had the opportunity to take part in a Virtual Reality experience of WW2 - linking to our thematic learning. We used VR headsets to see a 360-degree vision of London during The Blitz and what it felt like to be a WW2 fighter pilot.

Pfizer Science Jamboree

The children had an amazing time at the Pfizer Science Jamboree on Thursday. They were blown away by the size of the science park and intrigued to know what happens there - sparking the ambition of some of our budding scientists.

The children watched a show lead by the renowned scientist, John Croad. He wowed the children with facts and demonstrations about air and how it is all around us. The show had lots of bangs, explosions and jaw-dropping moments. Mrs Bax even flew out of her seat at one point. Afterwards, the children took part in three workshops, learning about 'Super Absorbant Polymers';  about how waste is disposed of and what happens to it and how the eye works. The were all very curious and asked some fantastic questions as well as demonstrating some fabulous knowledge.

Love to Learn

While we have a fantastic backstage team who are focussing on set design and creation, there is so much to do. We would like the children to each make a giant sweet that can be used on set. No smaller than a shoebox but can be bigger. It should be as bright and as colourful as possible; you could even add some sparkle.
