One Childhood, One Chance

Chilton’s House Captains Get To Work

Eight newly-elected house captains are settling into their duties at Chilton Primary School in Ramsgate

To qualify, the Year 6 children prepared and performed a speech detailing why they would be good for the role. They presented it to their year group, classmates and the senior leadership team.

The adults in school then decided who best fitted the role. They looked for someone who embodies the school values of respect, equality, courage and kindness.

Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire explained: “Being a school house captain is a real privilege and a role that many of our Year 6 children are keen to have. We have two captains for each house - red Roman, yellow Saxon, green Norman, blue Viking.

“The role comes with many responsibilities including announcing the house point winners in celebration assembly, leading school tours, and being on hand at public events to represent the school.

“As role models for the other pupils, the house captains will also ensure that children’s suggestions, ideas and concerns are heard through regular discussions with staff.

“These are pivotal roles for our house captains. They are a responsible team who will embrace the challenge and contribute greatly to the ongoing smooth-running of our school. We are looking forward to working with them as our senior pupil team.”

Chilton Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with partner schools Upton Juniors in Broadstairs and Ramsgate Arts Primary.
