One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News – 03.11.25

Year 3 have had a fantastic week. We have developed our knowledge of shape, described a variety of settings, and learned about magnets and Albert Einstein.

Maths
In Maths this week, we have been learning to recognise regular and irregular 2D shapes. We have also been learning how to calculate the perimeter of a shape and to find lines of symmetry. Next week, we will begin to explore statistics. We will start by interpreting data before we collect and present data in bar charts.

English
This week, we have been describing a stormy setting, ensuring that we are using all five senses within our descriptions. Next week in English, we will be developing our use of speech in our writing. On Thursday, we will be celebrating Michael Rosen Day. We will participate in a live lesson with him, as well as look at some of his work in our English lessons.

Thematic
This week in Thematic, we started by exploring magnets and investigating which materials are magnetic and non-magnetic. We also learned about the famous scientist Albert Einstein. Next week, we will be celebrating World Kindness Day and completing our PSHE learning for the term. This term, we will be developing our understanding of safer relationships, learning about Chilton being a ‘Telling School’ and what this means.

🎄 Christmas Card Competition 🎄

Our school has been invited to take part in the annual Christmas card competition organised by our local MP, Polly Billington.

Children are encouraged to create a festive design, and the winning cards will be printed and shared with businesses and organisations across East Thanet, as well as Members of Parliament in Westminster — spreading festive cheer far and wide!

Competition Categories

  • Under 7 years

  • Under 11 years

A template sheet has been provided.
Children should complete their Christmas card design on the back of this sheet. Please note, all designs should be hand drawn on A4 paper with colouring pencils, crayons, felt-tips pens or paint. Please do not use glitter, sequins, or digital artwork.

Consent

A permission form will be sent home to allow your child to take part.
At no stage will full names be used; however, winners’ first names, ages and school names will be shared.

Please complete and return the form along with your child’s artwork on the back of the consent form.

Deadline

Entries must be returned to school by Wednesday 12th November.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful designs our children create!

Ideally, children should aim to play for 5-10 minutes each day, the expectation is that by the end of Year 3 children will know the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables. TTRS is designed to be a fun way of learning times tables. TTRS is broken down into 8 game types.

Gig – this creates a heatmap to show times tables knowledge up to 12x12

Garage – this is a teacher set times tables game. Please complete this at home.

Jamming – a game to develop times tables confidence

Studio - games the are aimed at motivating (how many can you do in a set time etc) after 10 games this will give a rock status.

Festival and Arena – you can compete against other children from other schools

Rock Slam – you can choose to challenge anyone from within the school (adults and children)

Have a wonderful weekend!
