One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 14.11.25

It's been another busy and exciting week in Year 4, filled with new concepts, creative ideas and important discussions. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to and what’s coming next.

Maths

This week, the children have been exploring properties of 2D shapes. They identified and described shapes using key vocabulary and enjoyed sorting 2D shapes based on their features. We also moved on to learning about different types of triangles, such as equilateral, isosceles and scalene, and discussed how to recognise them.

Next week, we will be extending our learning into quadrilaterals before moving on to 3D shapes, where the children will start to visualise and describe shapes in three dimensions.

English

In English, we continued our work on Ice Palace, using the story to inspire our writing. The focus this week was on creating suspense. The children practised using short, snappy sentences, fronted adverbials, rhetorical questions and the technique of show not tell to draw readers in and build tension. They produced some wonderfully atmospheric writing!

Next week, we will be bringing these skills together as we begin to write our own five-part narratives, using Ice Palace as a model for structure and excitement.

PSHE

Our PSHE lessons have centred on the important themes of bullying and kindness. The children learned what bullying is, how to recognise it and how we can work together to prevent it. We also talked about what we can do in the future if we or someone else needs support.

Alongside this, we discussed the importance of being kind to others and also showing kindness to ourselves—a key skill for wellbeing and resilience.

LOVE TO LEARN

For your love to learn this week, using the start of the paragraph below. Can you finish the paragraph adding in, short snappy sentences, fronted adverbials, rhetorical questions and show not tell.
