Week Beginning 12.01.2026

Messages
We have booked five trips for our Year 6 children this year. A letter has been sent to you via MCAS detailing these trips and the total cost. Below is the PDF of the letter.
Year 6 Home learning – We would like the children to bring in a book from home that they have enjoyed either recently or as a younger child. This could be a non-fiction or a fictional book. We plan to share our books and our reasons why we love the book we have chosen in our Reading for Pleasure session on Wednesday.
Please can the children continue to practise their times tables on TTRS. https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth
RSPB Big Garden BirdWatch
This term, the whole school is taking part in the Big Schools' BirdWatch to collect data for the RSPB. We are inviting you to take part at home too. Here's what you need to do:
1. Choose an hour between 23 and 25 January
2, Only record the birds that land in your garden
3. Record the highest number of each bird species you see at any one time
4. Sign up online and submit your results to the RSPB. Here's the link: Big Garden Birdwatch
Miss Isaac, who is Chilton's science leader, would love to see any photos of you doing this and also know any particularly interesting birds you saw. Feel free to send her an email: carol.isaac@chiltonprimary.co.uk
Have fun twitching!

English
This week, the children focused their attention on writing the action that would see during a circus performance. After initially planning their chosen circus performance, the children created a Matisse-inspired piece of art that demonstrated their chosen performance. The children used verbs and adverbs to describe this performance. The children finished the week by performing their learnt magic tricks to the year group!

Maths
We returned to fractions this week. The children learnt how to multiply fractions, convert mixed numbers to improper fractions, added and subtracted fractions with different denominators and finished the week learning how to divide fractions. Year 6 worked incredibly hard this week!
Thematic
We started our new Thematic topic this week – How to mind your heart. The children have learnt a vast amount of interesting information about the human body. The children have learnt how the human heart works, what is in our blood, the circulatory system is and how it works. We made blood (don’t worry – it was not real) and finished the week exploring how a pig’s heart works – Year 6 loved this!
