Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Head's Up 23rd January 2026

Dear Families,

I would like to start by saying a huge thank you to all of you for your continued engagement, support and positivity this week. It really does make such a difference, and it is always appreciated.

This week, our school has been taking part in the RSPB Big Schools’ Birdwatch, and it has been an enormous success. We are incredibly lucky to live in Ramsgate, right next to Pegwell Bay and Minster Marshes – an area of outstanding importance for bird habitats. Over the course of the week, our children have observed a wide variety of birds, and their sightings will contribute to the RSPB’s national birdwatch campaign.

The RSPB’s birdwatch initiatives are so important, as they help build a picture of how bird populations are changing over time. The information collected by schools and families across the country plays a vital role in protecting wildlife and shaping conservation efforts for the future. It has been wonderful to see our children taking part so enthusiastically and developing a real appreciation for the natural world around them.

I have seen some truly fantastic learning across the school this week. I am constantly blown away by the enthusiasm, curiosity and genuine love of learning shown by our children – they make Chilton Primary School such a special place to be.

You may also have noticed on the class blogs that there are some additional bird-related activities you can enjoy with your children over the weekend, should you wish to continue the learning at home.

And finally, a quick bird joke to finish the week:
Why do birds fly south for the winter?
Because it’s too far to walk!

Thank you all for another wonderful week. I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone again next week.

Warm regards,

Mr McAuley
