One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 23.1.26

Well done for another fantastic week in Year 4!

English
This week in English, our Year 4 writers have been busy retelling the story Fly Eagle Fly! They practised using paragraphs, dialogue, and complex sentences, making their stories exciting and full of detail. The children have done a brilliant job showing their creativity and improving their writing skills.

Next week, we are starting a brand-new book called Pebble in My Pocket. We will be learning all about non-chronological reports, exploring features like headings, subheadings, and factual language. The children will get the chance to research and write their own reports, sharing interesting facts in their own words.

Maths
This week in Maths, we have been multiplying using the distributive law and associative law, helping us solve bigger multiplication problems with confidence. The children have been reasoning through their answers and explaining their methods clearly.

Next week, we are moving on to division. We will be learning the bus stop method to divide 3-digit numbers by regrouping. We will also solve two-step problems that combine division, addition, and subtraction – putting our problem-solving skills to the test!

Thematic
In Thematic this week, we explored earthquakes! The children learnt about the five deadly features of earthquakes and thought about how they can affect people living in different areas. We also compared the geography of Italy and the UK, spotting similarities and differences.

Next week, we will continue with map work, comparing the UK, Italy, and Europe. The children will practise using compass points to explore locations and improve their geographical skills.

We have been expert scientists this week and have been bird watching and researching different birds that we found in the playground.

Love to learn

For Love to learn this week, we would like children to create a poster on either volcanoes or earthquakes. It must have information about what they are and include the deadly features of each one. Make it as colourful and as inviting as possible!

Spellings

Next weeks spellings are words with the prefix il and words with the 'c' sound but spelt with que.

Illegal,  illogical,  illegible,  mosque,  unique, antique, technique, cheque, guard, grammar and group.
