One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 2.4.26

What a fantastic final week we have had! Take a look what we have been up to….

Easter Parade

Thank you for coming to see the children’s wonderful bonnet parade. All the bonnets were exceptional this year!

Phonics Meeting

Reminder: Friday 24th April there will be a phonics meeting instead of Read at 3pm.

Maths

This week in maths, we have been learning about time! We know that when the minute hand is on the 12, it is o’clock. When the minute hand is on the 6, it is half past. We used our clocks on the carpet to make various times which showed o’clock and half past. Then we went to our tables and practised reading clock faces and writing the times down with our partner. One of us wrote the answer whilst the other made the same time on our clock face. Then we switched over.

Fact of the week

Our fact of the week this week is:

6+0=6

0+6=6

6-0=6

Read, Write Inc.

This week in Read, Write Inc. we have been reviewing sounds we know and learning new sounds. We have continued to use our sounds to read and write words, phrases and sentences. In particular, we have been looking for special friends in our words, saying the sounds and reading the word. Any practise at home reading a word by finding the special friends, saying the sounds and reading the word would be greatly appreciated! We have also been working hard on our handwriting and writing sentences with capital letters and full stops.

Reading

Mondays – RWI books to be changed by an adult. Please could ALL reading wallets be put in the trays so that we can check who has earned a certificate.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays – children can change their learning zone book (the one with the coloured sticker on). Please help them to have this book ready to change when they come in to the classroom in the mornings. Thank you!

Children will bring home two books in their reading folders, one being a RWI home book. Children are expected to try and read this three times during the week to ensure they are building on their reading fluency. The RWI home books will be changed, by an adult, every Monday.

The other book (with the coloured sticker) should be changed independently by the child themselves (on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday)- first thing in the morning is a great time to do this! These books can be changed as regularly as needed.

Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in an assembly.

Children will also get a certificate for every 20 times they read so it is important that the reading record gets signed every time they read at home. BOTH RWI BOOKS AND THE LEARNING ZONE BOOKS CAN BE RECORDED IN THE READING RECORDS!

There will also be a sticker in your child’s reading record which will explain which skill they are working on with regards to their reading.

If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

RE

On Monday, we started learning about who Jesus was and the events in his life that shape the Christian faith. We used drama to understand the feelings of different people including his followers, his mother and his enemies at different events during Jesus’ life. The events were; Jesus’ birth; Jesus teaching his followers; Jesus performing miracles; Jesus gets arrested; Jesus’ crucifixion; Jesus appearing after death.

On Wednesday, we learnt that a parable is a story and that they teach us lessons. We were all able to describe the story, by using puppets to help us act it out.  We know that Christians believe Jesus taught the parable of the lost son to show that God rejoices when people come back to him. Take a look at our parable telling!

Today we looked at the parable of the good Samaritan, the message that Jesus was trying to teach is to be helpful and kind to others. We spoke about how we could show ‘helping hands’ and wrote one way we could help someone this week.

Next term our unit is Toy Maker! We will look at the Big Question for this unit ‘What are toys made of? We will also look at a range of toys, discuss the difference between an object and the material that it is made from. Through this learning, children will learn the names of a variety of everyday materials (e.g. wood, plastic, metal, glass, water and rock).

Love to Learn

Love to Learn books need to be returned on Wednesday each week.

For this weeks love to learn we would love you to make a diary of your Easter holidays, This could be using pictures, writing or both!

Show and Tell

A reminder that children should not be bringing any toys into school as these can get easily broken or lost. If children would like to do show and tell, please email a picture of the show and tell to class teacher(s) and we can use this when the children share with the class. Please could all parents ensure that children are not bringing toys etc in from home.

Additional Information

PE is now on a Monday afternoon please can children wear a plain white t-shirt, or our new Chilton PE t-shirts, black or navy bottoms and a plain black or blue sweatshirt.

Read at 3! This is where we would love to invite you into our classrooms and read with your child for the full 15 minutes. This will happen every Friday there after this term.

Spare clothes for year 1

We kindly ask that all Year 1 children have a spare set of clothes in school, including underwear and socks, in case of accidents or spills during the day. Having these items available helps us ensure your child stays comfortable and can quickly return to their learning.

If you have any spare underwear or clothing at home that your child has outgrown and you would be happy to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. These donations are very helpful for supporting all children when needed.

Thank you for your continued support.
